Word file missing pictures; Edit links

December 1st, 2010 3 comments

Received a Word file and all the pictures are missing? Could well be because the images were linked and not embedded in the document. The creator of the file will need to edit the links and save the pictures in the file. It’s easy:

Word 2007:

Click the Office button and select Prepare > Edit Links to Files. Then for each link (you can select them all using the Shift key), check the box ‘Save picture in document’. Do a ‘Save As’ and it’s done.

Word 2010:

Click File. In the Properties section on right of the file menu pop up there should be a button near the bottom that says ‘Edit Links to Files’, click the button. Then for each link (you can select them all using the Shift key), check the box ‘Save picture in document’. Do a ‘Save As’ and it’s done.

Outlook 2003 Signature ActiveX Error

October 15th, 2009 No comments

If you get when composing or replying to an email in Outlook 2003 you get the following error message: “Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page.  As a result, the page may not display correctly”. This is probably caused by your Outlook email signature.

This will usually occur if you used the advanced edit to edit your signature. It is caused by the smart tags Word adds into the HTML. The easiest way to fix this is to recreate your Outlook signature from scratch without using the advanced edit. This worked for me.

Word 2007: Printing from the wrong tray

October 5th, 2009 9 comments

Just had this problem today, a Word 2007 document refused to print from the tray selected in the printer properties. Turns out, you can change the tray setting separately in Word. This setting had been set for some pages, so half the document would print from one tray and the other help from another tray!

To get to the setting, select the Page Layout tab, select the Size drop down and click ‘More paper sizes’.
